Trinidad and Tobago Part 1
Posted by Phil on 10 Mar 2014 / 0 Comment

So I have a cousin named Travis, and he had a fiance named Kara, and they decided to get married in some random country called Trinidad and Tobago. Well I guess random wouldn’t be a good adjective because its where Kara’s family is from, giving it relevance, making the term random now false lol.

This was my first trip outside the country since I was 18. Now that I’m 24 of course I’m looking to have a great time especially because it was something called Carnival right after the wedding. I made sure to book my trip for a week and not just a weekend for the wedding. From my understanding Carnival was a celebration for something that involved the natives dancing in the streets in groups called “bands” and it lasted a day. Thats not the whole truth, it last 2 WHOLE days and by whole I mean whole because it started at 4 am on a Monday and didn’t end until midnight that Tuesday!! I ended up getting to hold the banner of one of the bands.

Initially going over there I wasn’t too excited because I was going to be staying with family and who can actually “turn up” with family around. Especially when they all know you as the little cousin. But in retrospect, I think I can honestly say we were more “turnt” than sober the whole time! I mean even my grandfather was drinking. You have to watch this hilarious video of my grandfather counting his converted money. The link is below.

The wedding was great. Despite some minor issues that went on behind the scenes. For example how the hell did the DJ not download a single song for the playlist. The day of the wedding he came saying all I have is Carnival music -_- It worked out though! Lets just say shoutout to Youtube and the innovative staff of the resort we were staying in.

As you can see by the pictures below carnival was crazy! There was so much going on. So many people celebrating in the streets, loud music everywhere, food and drinks. Although many of the natives said that the carnival is more exciting in Trinidad than it is in Tobago, I couldn’t tell. I guess next year maybe I will see how things are in Trinidad. The ticket was just south of 1000 dollars but it was worth it! I love traveling.
