The moment we’ve all been waiting for! Well, I don’t want to speak for everyone, but it sounds better, so I’ll roll with it. I have a date set and locked in for my first one hour comedy special. It will be Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 10:00PM. HOLY SHIT. Some might pretend that they are not phased by a jump in career difficulty, but I’ll keep it real. This can..and will..go well. But at the same time I could suck, although I never have lol. Either way I think the people there that day will have a great time regardless.

This is the part where I brag about how great the show will be, how historic it will be, and how turnt it will be. It will be recorded and will be just like any other comedy special you would see on Netflix. I haven’t seen the venue yet, or done a sound check, but I’m prepared for whatever.

The tickets are 20 dollars, but unlike most comedy shows there is no drink minimum. For those who don’t know, most comedy shows have a ticket price and you are also required to buy drinks. This helps the bar survive while simultaneously keeping you happy while listening to jokes of course lol. I’m not even sure if alcohol will be on sale there, this I will find out but I would assume so. However, I will probably have a pregame party of some sort. That sounds like a good idea.

I have one of my comedy homies opening up for me too. His name is Peter Owen and we started doing comedy the same time. The theatre seats 55 people…I haven’t crunched numbers to see if I should sell that out but I will know that kind of stuff soon. I would buy tickets sooner than later because its going to be great, historic, and fuckin turnt. Yeah, I just repeated that. Here is the link! Share it with the world even if your not going, let the people know what they are missing, its only right lol.

Finally… I have the clip of my first comedy show in NYC. I’ve been anxious to show this to people to finally prove my craft. I had succeed at a personal goal and I’ve been dying to share it lol. I’ve only had the clip for a few days now, and already great things have happened.

I used my comedy show to book a 45 minute show at the Midtown International Theatre Festival. I was really shooting for the moon when I applied for the spot and then my fears and prayers were answered at the same time when I booked the spot. Now the real test begins, I will have to have 45 minutes worth of material, thats actually good lol. This is kinda scary, but for sure doable.

The dates have not been finalized, but be sure to know that the marketing will begin as soon as the date is released to me. I plan on doing comedy pretty much focused around college life. I want to begin with these topics in my career because I want to tour colleges by next school year. I already have negotiations with some smaller schools and I will use this 45 minute special to lock in the larger college arenas. I love the college life and wish it could be lived forever, but since it cannot, the least I can do is make jokes about how fun it was for me. This is just the beginning, believe me on that. There are too many unfunny comedians out here for me not to be at the minimum, one of them lol. But of course, I strive for greatness and will accomplish just that.

Check out my comedy show below and let me know what you think via text or comment below if you want. I want more negative news than positive because I don’t need to work on what I’m good at already lol. I hate that I used the F word so much, but it was a nervous tic. I also need to let loose more so you will see that in shows to come. Check it out!

Apparently when you’re an actor, you must have a small highlight tape of your skills at arms reach at all time, in the event someone questions your skill level and wants to see you perform. They call it a reel, and I’ve been needing one for some time now. In high school I had to make a reel (which I called a highlight tape) for colleges to see my basketball skills, so it only makes sense that I do the same to get booked for great acting gigs.

So the only problem now is that I have no script, camera, or other actors to help me with this…so I went recruiting. I found another actor with the same need, but we both had now had no script nor camera man. So we pondered. Finally we decided to just make our own script. We brainstormed on some good topics and I wrote a pretty comical scene about an asshole doorman. The only problem now is getting it on film. So we pondered again. Finally we found a guy by the name of Mauricio (contact me for his info if you would like to shoot a scene as well, his prices are very modest). Now that we had all we needed it was time to film. But then we realized that we didn’t have a place to shoot it. So we did what anyone who lives in an apartment with a doorman would do. We waited until the doorman got off work and used his desk to film the scene.

There were some minor things we could not change, like the music in the background, but other than that I’m impressed with Mauricio’s work. We were also in a time crunch because my nosey ass neighbors kept asking did the owner give us permission. I’m like with as much rent that asshole charges us, I should have consent to do whatever I want in this building. Plus its much easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, everyone knows that!

Here is the scene! Please comment and or hit me up and let me know what you think! I love criticism, good and bad of course.

So I finally have taken the initiative to getting on stage. I got tired of procrastination and focusing on money and now I signed up for comedy classes at Gotham Comedy Club. I did not know what to think because I did not even know that there was even classes to teach you comedy, but apparently there is.

Its more to comedy than just getting on stage and being funny. These things you don’t think of when you imagine just being a successful comedian. There is mic placement, eye contact, stage movement, tone of voice, pitch of voice, etc. There is so much you would never think you would have to worry about to help make you a successful comedian.

So my first time on stage in NYC (recorded) I really saw all these flaws in my stage presence that I did not know existed. I sucked at holding the mic, I didn’t move around enough, I improved too much and needed a more structured approach. There was so much that I needed to work on that I did not realize before

As these weeks moved on, I saw myself get better and better, from just this one class. The instructor was great, but I’m still disappointed in myself because he stresses that being on stage as much as you can is needed and I have been slacking in that area. He stresses that nothing gets you better really except practice, and thats going to open mics and bringer shows.

This becomes hard to do when your working, and partying (I mean “networking”) haha.

So here we are now. I have my first actual comedy show in new york city and it will be at Gotham Comedy Club on May 7th! At 7pm! Im extremely excited and nervous to say the least. The good problem that I have is that I don’t express my nervousness on the outside, it just eats me alive on the inside. So now my goal is to go to some open mics before the show so I’m the most comfortable with my material. Wish me luck! and come out to the show if you are not busy. Its only going to be 10 dollars for admission!!!

So its taken me a total year to finally experience these crazy ass New Yorkers. Ive seen bums act wild on the trains.. Yelling stuff out that makes no sense, talking to themselves frantically. At first I thought that they were working on their monologues before I was reminded that people are just fuckin crazy. I just don’t get what makes people do the things they do sometimes.

So I’m listening to music while stepping off the D train at the 145th stop. As I step off the cart, onto the platform, I was greeted with a fully extended middle finger four inches from my face. At first my reaction was laughter because obviously this delirious man was directing his silent profanity towards someone behind me. I smirked into his disgruntled middle aged face and looked around for his true target as I went to step up the stairs.

It must have been about 5 steps up when my bewildered thoughts forced me to pause to think further if that stranger may have been talking to me. I had my right had on the germ infested railing and my left hand holding my left ear bud as I was shoved in the back by what I thought was a frantic New Yorker late for something. As I turned around, I was welcomed with another shove, this time accompanied with a subtle “move” said along with it. To my surprise, it was the same individual who I had just been pondering on if he was actually talking to me.

Mind you, this guy, in my perspective, was sober. He was between the ages of 45-60, salt and pepper hair, moderately clean attire, and he was wearing a back pack. He did not smell of any alcohol or drugs, which isn’t saying much because the hard drugs don’t really have a smell. To my defense, I did not have time to think about this guys mental state before I reacted. His mental state is the last thing I was thinking about as he has now disrespected me twice…in public…infront of strangers…some of which were hot chicks.

Once I noticed it was the same guy my level of pissedness raised to the highest level of pissitivity. I put my right hand around his neck and threw him down the stairs. I watched him fall, then continued to walk up the steps. Once I got to the top of the stairs the guy ran in front of me and put his hands in my face yet again! This time it was just all 4 fingers, in what to me looked like a foreign middle finger type of hand gesture. I was filled with rage at this point. Honestly I don’t know why, I’m ashamed to even say I let some guy whose name I don’t even know mess with my feelings like this. I then said to him “Are you trying to get fucked up” and he responded by slurring, “fuck you.” As soon as I heard that I wound up my right fist to knock him the fuck out. Simultaneously a stranger grabbed me from behind while yelling in my ear “Its not worth it bro, your going to get arrested over some drunk guy, and plus there is a police station right behind you.”

In retrospect I guess I’m glad that stranger grabbed me because there actually was a police station in the middle of this train station. Like how did it get there and how long had it actually been there. As I let this stranger calm me down the random guy stumbles off outside the station, not to be seen again. I’m still disappointed that I allowed a stranger to ruin my day, but if I could go back, I would have just jabbed him in the face right after that push on the stairs. Sorry but I’m not sorry. Good day lol.

Soooo I met 50 Cent the other day…Correction…I shot a scene with 50 cent the other day for a show called Power. Its always funny to monitor how people behave when a celebrity is in close quarters with them. There are different levels of groopie-ness and I love witnessing it. 50 had the whole hood outside watching us. Girls yelling “50, its Ashley, remember me from Miami in 09,” like seriously? lol Then when shooting the scene, everyone jumped to whatever he said. I’m not going to lie, I had to sit back and realize that this guy sitting next to me at the table made 40 million dollars off vitamin water. I don’t even need to mention his successful rap career lol.

So anyways back to the point that I have yet to make. To answer the obvious questions, Power will have a season 2….and you will see me on the first episode. I guess only if I don’t get edited out, but who knows. It all went well and they said they would be calling us back to shoot another scene.

Not only did they call, but they had me come in to read lines for a small part. Seems like the Brad Pitt approach is working out pretty well. I went in to read and they told me I did great while I was there. That followed with an email saying they want to put me on hold because like me for the role, but just need a few more producers to weigh in. At this point I’m extremely hype because this is a big fricken deal lol.

4 long days…4 oh so long days I waited for confirmation. They then emailed me saying they were still waiting and would get back to me in a few hours. The suspense is killing me at this point. Turns out they went with a homie of mine. You can’t help but to be disappointed in yourself, but seeing a friend succeed is also a great feeling. Ultimately if everyone around you makes it, you will as well. Moral of the story, help people up because it comes back around..maybe,..and you get invited to their crazy parties filled with loose women j/k sorta… This is just the beginning of the Principal role Auditions of course..I’ll keep y’all posted.

Okay so I haven’t been bullshitting. I promise. Well maybe a little, but I’ve still been on my grind. Just a minor update. I think I’ve become an A-list background actor lol. This isn’t so bad though, it seems to pay really well..for union actors that is. I’ve been working on different shows in the NYC area about 3 times a week for the past few months. Here is a list of the shows I’ve been on so far.

ROYAL PAINS
TRAINWRECK
THE NEST
THE AFFAIR
MYSTERIES OF LAURA
THE FAMILY FANG
BROAD CITY
GIRLS
BLUE BLOODS
SEASONS OF LOVE
LAW AND ORDER SVU
FOREVER
MEMBERS ONLY
POWER
EYE CANDY
BLACKLIST
UNBREAKABLE JIMMY SHMDT
ELEMENTARY
YOUNGER
PERSON OF INTEREST
GOTHAM
CRIME
DEMOLITION
THE SLAP
RICKI AND THE FLASH
NURSE JACKIE
THE FOLLOWING
PUBLIC MORALS

That shit crazy right lol. When I look at it all lined up like, its cool. What kinda sucks is that most of the shows that I’m featured on haven’t aired yet because they shoot so far in advance. No big roles have been thrown my way just yet, but I hear this is how Brad Pitt started his career; through background. Well I’ll keep you guys posted if anything pops off. Im just stacking some bread right now for the holidays!

Okay so I’m almost never on time. This wasn’t always true, but lately I’ve been getting really unlucky when it comes to riding the train and going somewhere. Perfect example was last week. I had to be at work by 4:30..So of course I left my Washington Heights apartment 30 minutes prior to work in midtown because if everything goes right (all trains are on time), I should only be 15 minutes late, tops (yea i said late lol a little late is always good lol sometimes). This usually works out but last week the craziest thing happened.

I’m on the 1 train headed downtown to transfer to the express train because I needed to get off at 34th street. We all know that 96th is the first time you can transfer trains, coming from the uptown 1. Transferring trains here is imperative to me only being a few minutes late for work compared to extremely late (15min<late).

So right before the 103 stop (the one right before 96) a lady across the train from me starts to make a crazy face in my direction. At first it was anger, then it graduated to worry, then pity, all before her eyes rolled in the back of her head. By the 3rd face I realized she was about to have a seizure. I should have yelled something out, I should have nudged someone, I should have just tried to help. I wanted to do something but I wasn’t sure what to do. Honestly, in retrospect I guess I kept thinking someone else would see her. I was wrong, she was dying for about 30 seconds before everyone decided to notice her foaming at the mouth and shaking in the middle of the cabin. I mean she actually looked like she was a fish out of water. So many people were trying to look away until someone yelled out “She’s having a seizure” followed by everyone then acting as if she appeared in the middle of the train out of no where. I was furious at this time because I immediately knew this was going to add an hour onto my already 10-15 minute lateness. I mean do I do feel bad though, I should have been worrying about her health, but instead I had thoughts of taking a picture to prove to my boss why I was going to be late.

The worst part about this situation is while I was watching it all go down, I was just praying….praying that the conductor would at least go to 96 before stopping the whole train at the most inconvenient stop on the line, 103. Of course he stopped the train immediately, consequently pissing me off and I was sure some other people as well. After 45 minutes woman was removed and we were ready to go. I jokingly said out loud that it was rude of the conductor to stop the train one stop early of the transfer station, completely with no regard for that random woman’s immediate health. To my surprise, half the train agreed with me laughing as well. Moral of the story is…New Yorkers are rude.. Mainly because people are probably late to be somewhere. Or at least that is my excuse.

Okay so last time I checked I thought that 50 cent and Floyd Mayweather were friends, but apparently they are “beefing”, which is slang for a quarrel in the rap world (despite one of these guys being a boxer). Let me back up a bit because there is a story before this story lol.

We have all seen an ASL ice bucket challenge video which took me about 7 videos in to realize this donation marketing thing has really gone viral. I literally have seen Will smith, Jeremy Piven, Wiz Khalifa, and many other names that aren’t as important as the aforementioned. What I haven’t quite understood is the donation process. I was originally told you must donate a certain amount, or do the ice bucket challenge and nominate other people before hand, which is dumping a bucket of ice water on top of your head. So if everyone is doing, this then that means no one is actually donating? Or maybe they are getting big names “not” to donate to make other people aware who are too lazy get ice and water together so they will donate? Or maybe they are actually donating but just want to know what its like to dump ice water on top of there head? Or…let me stop, I can go all day.

So back to the point before that last question of a point. 50 cent called out Mayweather on the ice bucket challenge. But with a twist, 50 cent wouldn’t be 50 cent if he didn’t violate another person in the public’s view. He challenge Mayweather to read a full page out of a Harry Potter Book. At first I was like, “wow thats mildly amusing, but yet boring, and could easily be practiced despite what level of reading the Worlds Champion Boxer is reading on,” but what I woke up to this morning was the most embarrassing sound clip I have ever heard was released by The Breakfast Club, 105.1.

There is a dude named Charlamagne that always is known to call someone out who led with the story. He had a line that Mayweather was suppose to read for a previous drop about something on the radio station. It was oneeee, 10 second clip of a sentence. Well it took Charlamagne only 10 seconds to read, but who actually knows how long he practiced for. Anyways, Mayweather fucked this sentence up every way possible. Like past the point of jokes lol. Like you wouldn’t even make fun of him in class because he was obviously that child that was neglected at home and was never pressured to do his homework. With all that said, its still funny as hell. Like how you can be the worlds best defensive boxer, but couldn’t read a sentence with words bigger than 4 letters. I guess if I could knock out anyone who would make fun of my reading skills, I wouldn’t feel pressure to learn to read. I remember practicing my reading as a kid because I was going to have all the swag in the world when the teacher called on me to read the next paragraph!
