So after my last final I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Florida. So when shopping for a flight, especially at the last minute, you expect it not to be cheap. When you find a flight at a good price you make sure to buy it quick because the prices change by the minute. This was truly a learning experience.
So I usually travel Delta…United a couple times…Southwest once or twice…but I never even heard of an airline called Spirit before. Their prices were moderately lower than the next cheapest flight so I figured it was worth it to give them a try. Side-note, I broke one of my personal rules with this, “Never go for the cheapest and never go for the most expensive.”
The reason I have that personal rule (stated above) for myself is because associating yourself with “cheap” entails all other things associated with “cheap”. For example, the first alarming thing I noticed about Spirit at the terminal. The Spirit terminal at BWI has ONE damn store. Like seriously, no McDonald’s, Duncan Donuts, Charlie’s Subs, or Applebee’s, not even a damn shoe shine. Because why have stores when these people won’t buy anything; cheap ass terminal for cheap ass customers. The second alarming thing was probably the first thing I noticed, now that I think about it. The damn baggage fees are literally 45 percent the cost of the ticket. First [check in] bag $45, second $55, third $100!, and thats just if you purchase it before you get to the airport. If you wait until you get there [at the gate] they charge you $100 per [check in] bag.
Now I know what your thinking, I’ll just bring the 2 “carry-on” bags and a “personal item” that most the airlines allow. Hell naw, not with Spirit. Those cost [additional] money too! The damn carry-on cost more than the checked! I’m talking $50 for the first and only, and then its $100 at the gate per “carry-on”! These people are crazy. If they would have tried to hit me with that I would have caught a charge. Needless to say, in the end, I spent more on this flight (in total) than I would have using a normal flight, (smh).
Now, to top everything off (pause), just charging you for every bag isn’t enough. They charge you for everything on the flight! I’m talking peanuts, crackers, chips all $3.50! Thirsty? 3 dollars a soda! or make it a chips and drink deal for 5 dollars. Want to sleep? Need a Pillow? 7 damn dollars! lol. I really think that if this flight were to crash into the ocean they would charge for the floatation device that saves you. Not all was bad though, the seats were clean (and also didn’t recline!). Needless to say, I ate and drank nothing for those 2 hours. Felt like I was at the damn movies, but of course they have no TVs in the headrests like Delta has. I think I’ve been spoiled..maybe complimentary peanuts and diet coke is too much to ask for.
Okay, I’m done bashing Spirit Airlines. All of this could have been avoided if they just hadn’t delayed my flight. I was sitting next to a lady who was complaining about her 5 hour lay over (lol like seriously who does that to people?) when they announced that her flight was delayed another 2 hours. As I laughed they came on and said my flight was delayed 45 minutes as well, and I was instantly pissed to the highest degree of pisstevity. So..I whipped out my lap top and now we’re here lol.
